Well, the weather has yet to perk up, but it looks like bluer skies will be coming our way in the next few days. We had a great break-through on Thursday night. In order to try to deal with Therese's new-found fear of the dark, I went to Kaufland to buy a nightlight. After staring at the only section a nightlight could possibly sit for a good 15 minutes, I found a little lamp light that had a timer and a setting for light-sensitivity (turning on when the room is dark and off when it is light). And all of this without being able to read the packaging - brilliant! Or not so brilliant. It turns out that this little thing that looks like a lamp is not a lamp at all. You have to plug another lamp into it and set the timer or the light-sensitive switch. The part that I thought would be all lit up simply shows a digital red 6. I have no idea why it says the number 6. Anyhow, Todd took one look at the packaging to this contraption and laughed, understanding exactly what it was. Too bad it was already out of the package... Thursday night we decided to plug in the stupid thing anyway so that the little red 6 would be visible to Therese and it worked! We heard her wake a up a few times over the night, start to cry, move around a little (I guess seeing the 6), and then go right back to sleep. Brilliant!
Friday was another cold and windy day. Reese and I went to visit Todd for lunch and ate, once again, at our favorite Turkish place so we could leave in a hurry (the wind was getting pretty bad). Therese watched a little Tour de France with Todd before an early bedtime. Todd and I decided to rent a nice, happy romantic movie - Revoluntionary Road. WRONG. Wow were we wrong. Todd read the first two lines of a few movie descriptions and we opted for one that was about a passionate couple searching for their dreams. Maybe we should have read the rest of the description.
This morning we ventured down to the market despite a little drizzle. I don't know if it was the weather or what, but there weren't as many booths or attractions for kids (sorry Therese!). Todd was amazed by the size and variety of the market. We bought lots of good fruits and veggies and then headed over to the train station to buy our tickets for tomorrow's big adventure: Basel, Switzerland. Basel is supposed to be "the cultural center of Switzerland." Plus it's a neat looking city with lots of history, including theological history that is significant to Todd. I spent all day making itineraries for our trip. There's so much to see. Hopefully it is as nice as the websites make it look!
