Day 1 - Unpacked!

So our first day in Germany was stressful though largely uneventful. Todd had to leave for class at 8am leaving Therese and I to forage for food ourselves. As I mentioned in the last post, Reese helped stream-line this by sleeping way past breakfast time. At about 1:00 we managed to get out the door and head to McDonalds. I know - my first two meals in continental Europe were at McDonalds - how stereotypical. Anyhow, I went to McDonalds because I knew where it was and what it meant when the menu said "Chicken McNuggets" and "Big Mac" which is more than I can say for the other places around here. I went for ordering in English and the lady at the counter was very nice and we kind of giggled our way through my order as we tried to communicate.

After lunch I worked on unpacking and organizing our belongings. Todd came home around 4:00 and we headed out to explore the city. We went to REWE - a large grocery store - and to Kaufland - a large store that everyone with Radolfzell blogs raves about. It is kind of like a small version of Meijer. Kaufland has rows of individual beer bottles which are all priced somewhere between 32 and 70 cents. Needless to say, this was a great discovery. While we were down in the city center, we ate dinner at il Postino, a nice Italian restaurant. Since this is a vacation spot, there is a lot of foreign food, especially Italian and Turkish. The food was great and we sat outside under a huge umbrella, which was lucky because it started pouring rain in the middle of dinner. Todd had his first German beer (or should I say "bier"?) which was the same price as my water :-). Unfortunately, with all of the rain I didn't get any pictures, but don't worry, there are many pictures on the way...
