Day 3 - Settling In

Today was our third full day in Germany and it feels like we are starting to get settled in. We seem to be adjusted to the new time. Therese slept until 9:15 which left us with much more of the morning to work with. She insisted that bunny wanted to take a walk as soon as she woke up. There is a picture below of her walking bunny's stroller just like at home. And just like at home, she wants to walk bunny in the street :). We walked to what was labeled a park near our place but it turned out to be a bunch of overgrown grass and a statue with some shady-looking teenagers hanging out in a corner. We then ventured around the Marktplatz where we learned that there is a "market" on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Someone said it was like a farmer's market. It looked indistinguishable from yesterday except maybe more people had merchandise outside of their stores as well as inside. I must be missing something here...

We ate lunch at a German/Italian place today called Alte Zunf or something (sorry, I can't look it up because Reese is sleeping right now in our room). Anyhow, we had what we felt like was our first real German dish. It was pork (anytime there is meat here, even if it is called a steak or beef, it is pork) with mushrooms and what tasted like an amazing stroganoff sauce over a bed of grated potato (hashbrown-like). We also ordered pizza so Therese would eat. We've had pizza and lots of bread at most of our meals - needless to say, Therese will not starve here. Yesterday, when we were at lunch, Reese was digging into the rolls when she got really excited. She pointed to a burnt corner on one of rolls and enthusiastically exclaimed, "Has chocolate on it!" Poor kid. It didn't taste like chocolate...

Tonight we cooked our first in-house meal with German food. Well, really it was some really long (10 inch) macaroni noodles, green beans and salad. Anyhow, I am proud of our success.

We also found out today that Germany celebrates a large holiday tomorrow - Corpus Christi - which means that school is cancelled :). We are going to celebrate the holiday by going to Schaffhausen in Switzerland. I will be sure to take lots of pictures of our first adventure out of the country!

This is our "Germamy home."
This is our street (the buildings across from us are very nice).

There are tons of flowers here (especially roses). This is one of my favorite yards that we walk by every day. Sorry, the picture doesn't really capture the beauty but I thought I'd try.
